The Weekend explores all kinds of relationships dynamics in its' rather short run time, and also manages to have some great cinematography and production design (courtesy of Kris Belchevski and Cindy Chao & Michele Yu respectively) to boot. | Rating: 1.5/5 Stand-up comedian Zadie (Sasheer Zamata) is still reeling from her last breakup three years ago, but is trying to stay friends with her ex-boyfriend Bradford (Tone Bell). A group of friends' attempt to repair their strained relationship by celebrating a birthday at a remote desert home falls apart when one disappears and their lives are changed forever. I actually liked the acting but the characters were not believable, there were plot holes & a lot of unrealistic behavior. The Weekend endears us to its characters, inspires plenty of laughs and has us wondering if Zamata is a movie star on the rise.

After traveling back in time, a divorced workaholic must repeat his past footsteps in order to return to an unaltered present, but struggles when it means re-proposing to his ex-wife. Meghie is adept at sliding between subplots and mixing her characters into talky combinations, all the better to maximize the film's slim 86-minute running time, but it's Zamata and her Zadie who steal nearly every moment.
