Of course our teams losing most matches played in England during the 1960's / 1970's did not give our commentators much to shout about. Everyone should again and again listen to the commentary by Iftikhar in Sharjah when Miandad hit a six on the last ball! The Ifti and Chisti duo made a cricket match worth watching on PTV. Despite the fact that Bhutto was toppled in July 1977 in a reactionary military coup by General Ziaul Haq and Kardar resigned as chief of the cricket board, Kureishi’s influence remained strong enough to make the new government and the new head of the cricket board consider recalling the banned players (Imran, Mushtaq, Majid Khan, Zaheer Abbas and Asif Iqbal). LBW, Wah Wah Wah, Kya Baat Hai Fazal Bhaie ki" Leg Cutter ka Jawab Nahi, Ye Goray bhee nahiee marsaktay". Once he commented "Wasim Akram aaj subah say gaind ko bohat swing kara rahe hain - poochna paray ga kay nashtay main kia khaya tha".
In the late 1990s, former Pakistan opening batsman, Ramiz Raja, was offered a stint on an international commentators’ panel that now required the commentators to go through rigorous training.
I recall Lala Amarnath going on and on about "his boys" sons Mohinder and Surinder during the Pakistan tour in 1978. Markear’s departure left Kureishi to become the sole known cricket commentator in Pakistan. Mushtaq, Sadiq Mohammad and the team’s two flamboyant youngsters — Imran Khan and Wasim Raja — and the hot-headed fast bowler, Sarfraz Nawaz, would often visit Kureishi’s bungalow in Karachi.
about the world of cricket commentary in general and pakistan in particular. Coney immediately flew off the handle and began to angrily crib about the umpiring.
Very rarely were local commentators invited to join the panels and many (once famous commentators) faded away in countries like Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka. All the same the comment relaly send everybody gaffawing@faisal He particularly became a very good friend and confidant of Imran Khan and often advised him on a number of cricketing matters.
Loved the old Urdu commentary. The company inaugurated the new showroom in the presence of Pakistan's Ambassador to Qatar, Syed Ahsan Raza Shah. The biggest reason for radio’s downfall was the financial problems faced by the Corporation. After the program went on the air, Ahmad took back his resignation. *Love from an Indian*quit nostalgic...I have been listening to them since 1978 when I was small kid....I always preferred Iftikhar over others for his dynamic style and opportune use of words...one would enjoy even a maiden over when he would commentate....I fondly remember his famous line when commentating during the 1982 india-pakistan series... Late Lala Amarnath would be giving expert comments...And Iftikhar would often say..'Is ke baray mein LALA !!!' Though Mujahid became as famous as Ahmed, he remained to be a very private person.
He concluded by saying that his team was now thinking of abandoning the tour. on Geo NewsTV channel for over 1… Stay blessed :)NFP can make anything worth a read...
But he faded away after a brief impact in the early 1980s.
Thank you NFP
He is settled in US and doing voice over some local advertisement. Ahmad is currently serving as Director of Elections, Investigations, Special Projects, and Research (EISPAR) for the Geo News Network (GNN). We have defeated the Hindus!’ Kardar was a staunch nationalist and patriot but in no way was he ever a bigot or overtly religious.
He was a man of kindness and compassion. It was Iftikhar who was commentating when Miandad hit that famous winning six against India in Sharjah in 1986. Ahmad started his career in 1980, after his release from jail and joined Jang Media Network and held a senior position in the Network. Kardar joined the party in 1970. I was a big fan of Iftikhar Ahmed.
Still remember his words when the last Indian wicket fell in the Karachi test (imran's greatest bowling) "It is all over, when doshi's stumps went crashing!
Though both Kureishi and Markear were already engaged in more well-paying professions and treated commentary as a hobby, Markear finally bowed out when he decided to become a full-time diplomat in 1965.
Impressive personality indeed. • An embarrassing episode took place live on PTV at the end of the second Test (in Hyderabad) during Pakistan’s home series against New Zealand. In the mid-1980s Mujahid, Ahmed and Munir reached the peak of their fame when they began to do commentary during the various ODI tournaments in Sharjah. Meanwhile back home another commentator had emerged.
