Vielleicht, aber mit Anspruch: die jüngeren Zuschauer werden sich an dem Schulklamauk delektieren (groteske Lehrer-Karikaturen), aber dadurch, dass der Film nicht in der Gegenwart (er entstand 1977), sondern 1963 spielt und auf damalige politische Verhältnisse bezugnimmt, gewinnt der Film an Tiefe und wird damit auch für Cineasten interessant: Algerienkrieg, Flüchtlingsproblematik, Antisemitismus, rechtskonservativer Terror der OAS, zunehmende Politisierung der Jugend, die vorwegweist auf die studentischen Unruhen der späten 60er Jahre - das macht den Film zu einem Zeitdokument, beschreibt allerdings eher französche Verhältnisse, was die Rezeption dieses in Frankreich sehr erfolgreichen Films in Deutschland erschwerte.
