Don't remember the last time I listened to it, but this is a great jazz/funk album that just goes and goes. It is non-stop Jazzy Funk at it's best. Root Down is a 1972 live jazz album by Jimmy Smith, released on the Verve label. How does this release sound ? I can see why it was voted his best album ever, it deserves to be labled that. ? Toward the end of his stint with Blue Note, The Wah-Wah and Electric Guitars here are off the hook! But it didn't have one. It was recorded in Los Angeles on February 8, 1972. I guess I was scared to try it, because of Mr. Smith's early recordings. Yes, they are classic, but I can't get into the early Jazz too much, not enough "Super-Spunk" for me("Got My Mojo Workin'" is tight though!).
