After pitching well in 2017 and 2018 (8-6 with a 2.81 ERA and 161 Ks over 118.1 innings), he turned in a lost year in 2019 (8.47 ERA and 19 Ks over 17 innings).
With speed becoming less and less relevant in fantasy baseball each year, it’s getting tough to justify the roster spot and draft pick with him. His AFB (89.3) was a career-low.
With the juiced ball making the utility guys 20 homer plus hitters it is traditional power that is becoming less relevant since power has become more common.
He was the first Seattle player to steal home since Dustin Ackley in 2012 and he equaled the Mariners record for most stolen bases in a game.
They finished 12th in home runs (239) and 18th in RBI (730).This season, their starting lineup will have the same cast of characters. Eventually his PT going away and that is my main concern. Edwards began the year at AAA (3.07 ERA and 14 Ks over 14.2 innings) before going on the IL with a hand issue. He played well in June (.338 with two HRs and 17 RBI over 65 at-bats) while coming up empty after the All-Star break (.188 with three HRs, 21 RBI, and four SBs over 197 at-bats). Beyond that, you're looking at a guy you probably want to bench half the season. section: | slug: | sport: baseball | route: player |
Braden Bishop is another guy the org seems to be pretty high on. He had an ERA under 3.94 in each month while struggling with HRs in July (five over 29.2 innings) and August (five over 27.2 innings) then walks in September (18 walks in 30.2 innings).
The two additions to the pitching staff from free agency are SP Kendall Graveman and RP Carl Edwards.
Edwards is tough to hit with strikeout ability, but his arm is loaded with question marks in 2020.
Over six seasons in the minors, he went 43-33 with a 3.31 ERA and 640 strikeouts over 620.2 innings. This can go both ways - could be most other teams that are drafting SB elsewhere in which Mallex may drop. Mitch Garver 2020 Outlook NOTICE: No Bench Coach Discussion in This Forum. They may tone down the juiced baseball a little to the 2018 one but they are never going back to the 2016 one. Sign in to follow this .
I see plenty of room for them to get a good look at Kyle Lewis and Shed Long without impacting Smith's playing time, and it's not like Dee Gordon is a serious threat. Just looking at Steamer's projected stolen bases, he's projected to be 2nd with 39 (behind Mondesi). There's no reason for them to bench him now and in all likelihood he will probably be the every day lead off hitter as well. North of 35 steals should be easy, but at what cost?
