The low quality stream I watched also added to the bleak and grimy atmosphere of the movie. Horror. There…Total gore-drenched Euro trash filled with cannibals, zombies, a doctor conducting gruesome experiments in the middle of the Amazon and the friends they made along the way.While in no way is this one essential, I feel like it sits between Lenzi's sloppy snoozer Nightmare City and Mattei's surprisingly fun Hell of the Living Dead. Besides, like a lot of these movies, white people are depicted as the true enemy and that’s pretty damn accurate.Probably the goriest of all the Italian cannibal movies, or on a par with Eaten Alive!, but this is much more fun.I love Severin for putting out a double Blu-ray with both cuts of the film, but Dr Butcher MD is basically the same as Zombie Holocaust, and although the music is funnier and there's some extra horror early doors, that's cancelled out by the fact that it doesn't feature my wife walking past the TV as the title "Zombie Holocaust" appears in massive letters and she mutters "for fuck's sake", which is how this movie is really meant to be seen.The plot basically focuses on four people that go to an island to investigate some strange shenanigans and find zombies. However, the horror of the cannibals ripping them to shreds and eating them raw is just the beginning as a mad doctor is conducting gruesome experiments and bringing the dead back to life. More of a Cannibal fare than a zombie one, but I suppose Cannibal Holocaust was already taken.
Made on the same location as zombie flesh eaters,with some of the extras of that film & stars,this is as cheap as they come effects wise. I love Zombie Holocaust, i found this low budget italian horror film back in the 80's ( amongst many others) and it's never been out of my collection ( one way or another) ever since.
